Spinach is said to be multi vitamin source. It is also rich in calcium and Iron. Including this in diet for children is recommended world wide. This recipe is very famous in Andhra and also very tasty. Kids will also like this with a spoon of ghee. This can be had with rice or roti.

TOMATOES | 2 RIPE |
RED CHILLY POWDER | 1 TABLE SPOON |
GREEN CHILLIES | 4, cut to half |
TURMERIC | ½ TEA SPOON |
CORIANDER POWDER | 1 TEA SPOON |
TAMARIND JUICE | ½ CUP, ADJUST |
FOR TEMPERING | |
ONION MEDIUM | 1 |
MUSTARD SEEDS | ½ TEA SPOON |
JEERA/CUMIN SEEDS | ½ TEA SPOON |
GARLIC CRUSHED | 4 |
RED CHILLIES | 3 |
CURRY LEAF | 1-2 TWIGS |
OIL | 1-2 TABLE SPOONS |
CORAINDER LEAVES | FOR GARNISH |
PROCESS |
1. Wash the dal with clean water. Keep aside. |
2. Cut the palak leaves. Add 2.5 of water in pressure cooker and add dal, palak leaves in it. |
3. To this add red chilly powder, coriander powder, turmeric, tomatoes cut into pieces. |
4. Pressure cook this for 4 whistles. |
5. Once the pressure is gone, mash the dal finely. |
6. Take a seperate vessel, and keep it on medium flame. |
7. Add oil. Once it is hot, add the cumin and mustard seeds followed by all the other ingredients mentioned under tempering. |
8. Once the onions are cooked, add the mashed dal to this followed by tamarind juice. |
9. Add required amount of salt and mix it. You can add water is the consistency is too thick. Let it cook until the dal comes to boil. This will take approximately 10 minutes. |
10. Transfer the contents to a serving bowl. Garnish with coriander leaves and serve it with rice or roti. |
