Welcome to AhalyaTV, where ambitious professionals and entrepreneurs, like you, learn practical strategies to gain clarity, confidence, and connections so that you can do good, do what you love and live a great life! Now it's time to discover your innerOli and connect to your brilliance so let's dive right in! I bet that you're not leveraging the connections you already have in a way that's supporting your goals and dreams. Before I read the Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell, I was probably leveraging my network a little bit but not to the extent that I do now, especially given this quote from the Tipping Point. Malcolm Gladwell says that "a very small number of people are connected to everyone else in a few steps - the rest of us are linked to the world through those special few." Now wouldn't you want to know who those special few are?! If you want to truly leverage your connections, you need to start by identifying those special few in your own network. And I promise you, we all know at least one person who falls into each of the following categories: 1) Connectors: Connectors are people who know a lot of people and love making introductions. Connectors know people from all different walks of life, all different circles - social circles, professional circles, different interest groups, you name it. And the more important part about connectors that they live for connecting people from different circles with each other. That's what they love to do. If you know a true connector, then you'll know that it truly makes their world go round when they can make a meaningful introduction between two people. Now just to be clear, connectors can be found from every walk of life so regardless of your circles, I guarantee there's going to be handful of people you know who have a truly extraordinary knack for making friends and acquaintances. 2) Bridges: I think of bridges as people who may not know a diverse group of people but they are closely connected to a particular circle of people and the best bridges are highly influential in that circle as well. Bridges come in really handy when you want access to a particular circle that you would otherwise have no access to. Once you know which circles you want to connect into, start looking for bridges - people you know who could make at least one meaningful introduction into a circle. 3) Mavens: Mavens is a term that Malcolm Gladwell uses in the Tipping Point to describe information specialists. Mavens are people who love accumulating all sorts of knowledge as well as sharing that knowledge with others. Mavens are people I rely on to get caught up on the news since I rarely ever watch or read the news. Mavens are people you can go to for the latest trends in the marketplace. This is what they love talking about. If you know someone who seems to know something about everything, they're likely a maven. 4) Salesmen: Malcolm Gladwell says that salesmen are persuaders. They have special traits that can convince others of pretty much anything. In every organization, there's at least one person who everyone listens to. Sometimes you can't really pinpoint why they have so much influence but they just do. Apart from observing and learning from these people on how to influence, leverage them to get your ideas sold! Connectors and mavens are hubs. They know a lot of people or know a lot of information. Take some time to identify the connectors and mavens you know. They could make life a lot easier for you, and don't feel guilty that you're "using" them because you're really giving them an opportunity to do what they love to do! And don't forget about those bridges and salesmen. They can be powerful influencers for you. Don't just identify who they are. Start making requests of them so you can accelerate the achievement of your goals and dreams.
