In this video " Trataka Meditation & The Art Of Emptying The Mind " I briefly discuss the health and spiritual benefits of " Trataka. " Trataka is a concentration meditation & is the practice of staring at an object with a fixed, laser focused gaze without blinking for a prolonged period. Some masters can go over 20 minutes without blinking! After staring at a particular object ( usually a candle flame) for a long enough time ( 1 - 3 minutes is plenty for a beginner ) the practitioner then closes his or her eyes and visualizes the object that was previously being focused on within the minds eye. By envisioning in your minds eye what you were just staring at, you effectively build and strengthen the minds ability to visualize images. Trataka is most often done by staring into the flame of a candle positioned at eye level with a special candle holder designed specifically for this particular form of concentration meditation. By practicing this meditation often and regularly, you strongly and rapidly begin to increase your ability to remain focused without being distracted by the inner dialogue of the non meditative mind. Trataka helps keep your thoughts pointed inwards - instead of focusing on the chaos of the external world. It also significantly increases the strength of the eye muscles and is very good for the health of the eyes and mind. Trataka can benefit the practitioner by slowly increasing his or her ability to remain focused on one object while simultaneously keeping the mind empty. Other subjects discussed in this video are : the importance of meditation for keeping the mind clean and clear from stress and negative emotional thought patterns. I also discuss how a minimalist meditation can aid massively in the reduction of unnecessary food craving’s, bad thought patterns and depressive tendencies. When we can achieve the art of emptying the mind through meditation to a point where we are no longer bombarded and tempted by the inner dialogue of the chattering “mental self” aka “ the lower self “ we can reach profound states of peace and bliss whereby we can begin reprogramming our life from a standpoint of equilibrium, balance, and ultimate mental and physical well being. So many of our emotional states during the day are caused and spawned from stress, trauma, exposure to a over stimulating society, and a fundamental misunderstanding on how to relax. Through meditation we can slowly and effectively break the links to these unnecessary stresses and experience a freer, more relaxed waking state where life is all around more enjoyable, taken less seriously, and less taxing on our own personal well being.
